In 1956, the Special Studies Project (funded by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund)started. The aims of the project were three-fold. 1. Define the major problems and opportunities that will challenge the United States over the next ten-fifteeen years; 2. clarify national purposes and objectives; 3. develop a framework of concepts and principles on which national policies and decisions can be soundly based. This book sums up the results of the panel's findings., or put another way-this book reflects the thinking and effort of more than 100 distinguished Americans.
